Master's Word - End of 2015 Message
Thank you all for celebrating this extraordinary year of building connections and promoting civility. The year has been replete with examples of camaraderie and growth within our lodge and in the broader community. Some of the highlights from the year thus far include:

  • Building and dedicating our new archives and conference room. It has also been a privilege to see our brothers’ widows and loved ones share their company with us. Rita Wilson, widow of Wor. Don Wilson and long-time companion of Bro. Peter Holloway, honored us by cutting the ribbon for our new conference room and archives space.

  • Being one of the first Lodges to reach 100% officer giving in California this year
  • Awarding Wor. Pedrotti his Golden Veteran’s Award
  • Cleaning Frog Park with our youth orders and local schools for Earth Day

  • 4 Masters of Alameda and Oakland As a striking example of the strengthening connections among Lodges in Oakland and Alameda, the sitting masters of four of the local Lodges attended a third degree at Live Oak No. 61 last month for a candidate whose masonic journey touched Oakland Durant Rockridge Lodge No 188 at every step – including our community service projects.
    In addition to serving in the community this year with our hands, 100% of our officers donated to the California Masonic Philanthropies. Our Lodge also donated to a number of other very important causes, including:
  • The Masonic Home and Masonic Home Volunteer Services for gifts to residents
  • Firefighters in Safety Education (FISE), a program funded through the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, the organization which created the "Stop Drop and Roll" campaign, now a technique taught worldwide.
  • Claremont Middle School
  • Piedmont Avenue Elementary School music program
  • John Muir Middle School music program
  • Young People's Symphony Orchestra
  • Frog Park
  • Urban Montessori Charter School
  • Northern California DeMolay and the DeMolay of the Year
  • Job's Daughters International, California
  • Alameda County Food Bank
  • Oakland Public Library, Rockridge Branch
  • As the year draws to a close, I’m looking forward to our installation on December 19th, and the Feast of St. John on December 27th.
    In closing, I would like to reiterate my thanks for your support – not only for all of the extraordinary events this year, but also for keeping the Lodge running like clockwork while I was away in September to welcome our daughter into the world.
